Learning is a fun

Every human being is always on the look out of being happy and content .Some do it consciously while others are impulsive.Learning starts at a very tender age when the mind is not logical one and remains focused only in straight line dimension of playfulness. Learning is aimed at education to help turn on the infinite potential and divinity within.Forcing education without any fun cripples the growth of a logical and analytical mind and thus impairs the learning ability.

The above photograph is of a child of standard I of my school(Kendriya Vidyalaya Maligaon) who appears to be in the full flow of fun during the class session.

Know Backbenchers

Generally Backbenchers are said to be the category of students who sit in the last bench of a class. There are different reasons for it because some sit at the back just to avoid the attention of the teachers in the class and some sit just to make nonsense in the class. Whatever may be the reason but they are not there in the class to study sincerely most of the times. They are the bunch of the students who have lot many other things to do than to study in the school. But it does not mean that this is the metaphor for being slow learner in the class. It’s just their careless and casual approach or may be the indifferent or disinterest attitude of the teacher which forces them to sit at the back rather than yawning in front of the teacher. This problem can easily be cured by making the class learning friendly and getting them to involve in the class like others. Backbenchers do not mean a symbol of failure, many of the so called ‘Backbenchers’ have proved the term wrong and have come with flying colors in the history of the nation and have also managed to find front row in real life situation.

WHO HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY?

Mostly we see that the children, often called disabled, have to suffer from great depression as they are always discriminated on the basis of their prodigy. The question is that who will take the responsibility to cure them? Yes the question is this but, what could be the answer?

Some says the parents have the responsibility, some says the teacher are responsible and yet other says that the friends or doctor could be helpful. Are only these people responsible for making them disabled? No the whole society has made them disabled, so the responsibility of giving a suitable status to them by giving them an opportunity which they really require goes to the whole society.

The child is firstly and heartily attached to his/her parents, but when he or she is refused by the society , only the parents are there who can put up them by supporting their talents. If the parents have the understanding to know what their child wants, then only they would be able to rebound back and give them better results.

Friends and the Teachers are the other than parents who are related to the child. If they ensure for a perfect environment and him by supporting him , the child will certainly show them better results and will be able to live happy and prosperous life with comfort.

Now the duty of every person as a part of society comes. The big role of society is to help the child by appreciating him/her and by not interrupting . The other way by which the society can help the child is to make the child feel equal to the other children and this could be only possible if the understand their prodigy and talents hidden in them.

What does disability mean?

The dictionaries define disabled as some ones physical incapacity to do some work, physically injured but in this project we define the word disabled as those who have the incapability of learning in them, those who don’t like learning but are good in the other fields but the genius in other field is said to be their disability. Mostly the parents and the teachers think that those students who have a problem of learning disability can’t do anything in their life but who knows when the mind works and that person with learning disabilities can become a great personality. We can take many examples like Thomas Alva Edison, Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, George Washington, Sachin Tendulkar and many more. These people had learning disability but will be remembered till the end of this universe.

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE?

Any child, who is weak in studies is called disabled. Is this child's fault? Is he a useless creature on earths he is weak in studies? is that right?
Nobody wants to know in what thing the child is interested, nobody wants to know what the child wants. Is the academics the only thing? Was Pablo Piccaso not a man who was also suffering from dyslexia and even then he proved himself as a legendry artist. The god of cricket Sachin Tendulkar never reached to 12th class, then even everybody salutes him.
In this process of life the child get as pressurized as if he is a pressure cooker. In this whole procedure the thing which get most effected is their mind. Due to this pressure the child can't concentrate on his studies , as well as in the thing also in which he is interested. And by this the life of child get surrounded by a lot of contradiction. This is the most bitter truth about our society which acts as a conversion machine and makes the special children 'DISABLE'.

Children at Half work

Students are normally found completing their homework in the class, free period or games period coping from peer notebooks. The above picture shows that either the student was overburdened with lot of homework or he/she could not understand it.
This kind of disability is generally seen in present day scenario, because the students are overburdened with lot of projects work and assignments due to onset of new CCE (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation) programme in the Indian context of the New Education system.
In hurried the concept is not cleared to the students because on the part of teachers who have the task of a syllabus to be completed within the stipulated period of time and many other record maintaining formalities.
The homework should be well cleared to the students so that he/she is capable to do it without any hindrance. However in India, the saddest part of our Education system is, that the students are always asked to do the assignments beyond their capabilities.
They remain absent minded throughout the classroom instructions and abstain of their physical and mental development.

He is not what he is…

What do you think about the drawing shown below is made by a student of which class? Most probably your answer will be that he may be in class 10 or 11. But surprisingly it has been made by a student of class 7. So imagine if at this he is able to make such type of drawing than if he is given extra courses for drawing and is admitted to an art school won’t he be able so his genius more effectively that of wasting his time and ability in scholastic area. Yes definitely he would be because his creativity does not fit here in studies but would fit in his world of imagination.

What they can do everyone can’t..!

Children with some kind of learning disabilities often have certain special qualities in them, as you can see in the photograph, the students with the use of their skill are drawing some pictures show their talent than that in their academics.
It had been a free period as the subject teacher did not come into the class and they were supposes to do their studies on their own.

We can see that they are doing what they like to, instead of the usual read and write, and general studies which shows their learning disability and their worth in other creative field.
We need to think what they are capable of. Can we conclude that no one is having a problem of learning disability but it can be said that some are good in studies and some are average but those who are average have taken out some part of their mind from studies and used in the other field and thus they are blamed of being disabled but no one knows their genius.

Cultivation of Memory for Disables

Many children seem to be under the impression that memories are bestowed by nature in a fixed degree or possibilities and that little more can be done for them – in short, that memories are born, not made. But the fallacy of any such idea is demonstrated by the investigations and experiments of all the leading authorities as well as by the results obtained by persons who have developed and cultivated their own memories by individual effort without the assistance of an instructor. But all such improvement, to be real, must be alone certain natural lines and in accordance with the well-established laws of psychology instead of along artificial lines and in defiance of psychology principles. Cultivation of the memory is a far different thing from “trick memory” or feats of mental legerdemain.

Learning disabled are not a disabled

Usually all of us use to under estimate one who is not good in studies. But we never try to see the capability in that person. We just can see what we can be seen but can’t see what should have been seen for judging ones abilities.

One who is said to be disabled in learning may be more powerful in other fields like drawing, painting, sports, and other co-curricular activities but is under estimated his abilities in these fields. One thing what we may conclude is that those who are learning disabled are extraordinary creation of God totally different from that those who say themselves as brilliant and extraordinary.

Poor Vision Disability...!

Poor vision is one of the disabilities in students. While the classroom instructions being written on the blackboard, students having poor vision are not able to see and write it in their notebooks its become disappointment for them as they need it for reference. Sometimes the student feels shy to tell this complication to his teacher and due to the financial Implication the parents are not able to get the poor vision problem rectified. Therefore the role of teacher and management becomes crucial to trace out such students and get their vision regularly checked by the eye specialist. Thus the disabilities in the students learning can be detected and rectified in due course of time.

Children walk to school, And rush back to home...!

The above picture shows students reluctant going school due to the curriculum not being taught as per their interest, attitude and aptitude. The schooling becomes monotonous and overburden for them. Every time they face the lack of emancipation once they start moving to their school.

A great happiness can be easily seen on their faces the moment long bell gets over. They can be seen lingering to school and striding back to home. Sometimes this modern education system also comes out as a disability in student, which becomes almost incurable.
Till now no education commission or institution has been able to provide such curriculum which could engage 100 percent students in their classes.

And the visual below shows the students rush back to home. Why?

Dyscalculia
Difficulty with math
Problems doing math problems, understanding time, using money

Dysgraphia
Difficulty with writing
Problems with handwriting, spelling, organizing ideas

Dyspraxia (Sensory Integration Disorder)

Standing with strength!

According to me those who have learning disabilities are more stronger than academically brilliant students, in some other creative fields. They could be good in painting, drawing, dancing, singing, and many other fields which you may not know.

Here is an example:  A boy in my class who is not so much good in studies but has the capability to spontaneously design arms and ammunition through rough sketches.

What I feel is that he should have been given chance to leave the formal studies and to show the strength of his creations to the world. He rather that reading books, talking with friends, playing games in the free periods make those sketches. He stands apart from all of us in his own world.

Know your gifted child’s learning disabilities?

Many gifted and talented children are generally misunderstood as having learning disabilities or behavior abnormalities. This happens as there are many characteristics of gifted children, both social and emotional, that are mistaken as symptoms of specific learning disorders. It is similar for some gifted children to display a significant discrepancy between Verbal IQ and Performance IQ and having characteristics of a learning disability. Often gifted children have unusual learning styles and even though they are very intelligent, they may also have learning disorders.

Without intervention, self-esteem issues are almost certain in the life of a child who is both gifted and has a learning disability. If your gifted child also has a learning disability he or she will benefit from extra support and encouragement.

"Come in to learn and go out to serve"

This the motto of the temples of knowledge

No one knows what one wants

But he knows what he can

Leave them free;

let them create

And then they become great.

Pressure of studies

In this picture below you can see that a boy working but you may not be knowing that he is doing work in his library period in which he supposed to read magazines and reference books. The students are so much under pressure that their wishes are washed away by the soap of teachers lessons. The boy here is doing work instead of gaining extra knowledge which he was supposed to do but the studies are not allowing him to do what he want and show his abilities in other fields.

THEY NEED A CHANCE...!

'LEARNING DISABLES' are often taken as children with no future and their talent never get enough importance, but they just require a chance to prove themselves. Each child has his/her own talent whether he/she is not good at his/her studies and their path to prove themselves becomes more easy when their parents collaborate with them.

Many legendary people are there who were suffering from learning disabilities, but they proved themselves. They were not good at there studies but they used there talent and reached the top of world. Some of them who are well known for there talent are-:

PABLO PICASSO-:Pablo Picasso , the legend and the famous art icon. He was patient of Dyslexia and always found difficulties in his studies and made this his school days difficult. But he didn't stopped there and showed his talent to whole world and now his is well known for his paintings.

LEONARDO DA VINCI:- He is well known for his painting of 'MONA LISA'.He was a painter, inventor, scientist and a architect.
Vinci was another patient of Dyslexia and couldn't concentrate on his studies. His teachers were very angry of him as he used to ask very difficult question.

They made their own Future..!

Some people may consider that there is no good future for those suffering from learning disabilities. But it is entirely a wrong thinking. There are many great examples of this. Some of them are –

Walt Disney – As a child he was considered ‘slow’ and not being creative. But as we all know, now he is known as one of the best motion picture producers in the world.

Albert Einstein – He’s the greatest physicist of all time mainly known for his theory of relativity. As a child he suffered from a learning disability called ‘dyslexia’.

Thomas Alva Edison – We all know him as the inventor of the light bulb. But not all people are aware of his being a dyslexia victim. He was considered too dumb to be in school. He also hated mathematics.
So above were some of the famous personalities who once were the sufferers of learning disabilities but can we say that they never proved themselves? That they never had a good future? Whatever learning difficulties they got during their childhood, they learned to overcome it and made their own future. Their perseverance and own way of thinking put a bench mark so high that even now we praise and admire them. It is applicable to all people with learning disabilities that they can overcome their situation and reach great heights.

WHO IS DISABLE?

'Learning disables' are those children which who are little weak in studies and are not able to concentrate fully in their studies, however they are not to be taken as mentally retarded. Some children are physically challenged and find some difficulty in their studies. These children get pressurized due to discrimination with them and this pressure dramatically increases when they do not also find support from their parents and home.

Often I feel that our society is actually disabled in not being able to spot and provide a suitable condition for those with such disabilities.
Often people think that these children do not have a bright future and that is why they are always discriminated. However children having learning disabilities may have lot of creative talents other than general academics.

A Call to the Parents...!

A child suffering from learning disabilities can get no better support from anyone other than their parents. They are the only ones who can take the responsibility of their child and help them overcome the situation.
Parents must not be demoralized by knowing that their child is suffering from learning disabilities. They should realize that all people learn differently. Parents must support their child and help them to maintain their self esteem. They must not be distracted by tests, school bureaucracy and endless paperwork and must remember the important thing that is, providing their child with emotional, educational and ethical support.
Parents can research about new progress in learning disabilities, different programs and educational procedures that could make an impact with their child. Parents may also take the help of school and teachers to overcome the child’s learning disabilities but they need to take charge when it comes to finding tools their child needs to continue learning.
The child will follow their parents lead. If parents approach the learning challenges with optimism, hard work and a sense of humor then the child is likely to embrace their perspective or at least see the challenges as a detour rather than a roadblock.

Success depends on access to opportunities...

Opportunities galore-
Intense to flap wings;
But alas!
Constricted by no-access to opportunities-
Dreams dry out;
Potential lost.

24 Hours Studies will not Work!!

It is a very pity matter that many parents pressurize their child to study the whole day but do they ever imagine that forcing them to study will not help them to understand anything in their copies and books unless they have the capacity to comprehend them ? It doesn’t matter how much time a child study a day because in the end they don't get their scores in scholastics by studying 2 hours more than their regular study schedule but by the amount of knowledge they can capture from their books in that amount of time. What’s the use of keeping a child in front of his/her books and notebooks for hours and hours if he/she is not at all having any improvement in their studies? They expect full support and patience from their parents as they are trying as hard as they can. If we apply force on a weak twig it breaks, similarly forcing a child (especially those with learning disabilities) to study all the time will not make the situation any better. They need time to prove themselves. Most parents of weak students keep saying that "My child is not trying hard, he keeps diverting his mind from studies. He chooses not to do hard work and is not motivated. If he concentrates more in studies then he will be among the top students". They keep blaming the child but never try to find out that what could be reason for that child to avoid studies. They don't want to understand that their child may be suffering from learning disorders. A child suffering from such disorders cannot try harder, pay closer attention or improve motivation on their own because learning disorders are caused by a difference in the brain that affects how information is received, processed or communicated. They are not able to understand what's written in their school books because they understand things in a different way.

What I feel............

The project 'Learning Disabilities' is very special to me because it is about those children who are really special. They are negatively known as 'disabled' by our society, but they have their special talents, which are mostly undiscovered. They know the importance of everything as they have something less in comparison to us. These children are always discriminated on the basis of their 'prodigy', which is often termed as their 'disability'.
