We often come across cases of children, facing certain learning disabilities which go unnoticed till it ruptures into a point of no return. Often segregated, victim of social carelessness, domestic ignorance and the institutional insensitivity, often identified as cases of mentally retarded, physically challenged or a victim of peer pressure. We take a closer look with their points of view at their challenging lives, trying to find the beginning of an individual story, unheard and untold...!

Kunal a Special Child
Kunal Kumar is a now a 14 year old student studying in class 10th. Though Kunal is a very hard working student but nowadays he is unable to understand the instructions imparted in the classrooms. May be due to his poor I.Q level he could be facing the difficulties, however his dedication and hard work are sources of inspiration to others.
Conversation between Me and Kunal.
Vineet- When teacher teaches you in the class do you really understand or not?
Kunal- I try to understand but after some time I use to forget.
Vineet- I observe you in the class and you are mostly seen busy with studies, does it really benefit you?
Kunal- I am always trying to be better in studies and it goes well when I study at home and school but when it come to write in examination or if I try to express my knowledge orally I become weak and then everything becomes difficult for me.
Vineet- Aunty you must have many expectations from your son and you must expect but what is the problem that gives you tension about Kunal?
Conversation between Me and Aunty (Mother of Kunal).
Conversation between Me and Aunty (Mother of Kunal).
Aunty- He works very hard on his studies and there is a feeling of tension in his mind when the exams come near. He learns in the evening and in the next morning he says he forgot what he read.
Vineet- From when does Kunal have this problem?
Aunty- This problem started when he was 3 years old. We spent a lot of money for his treatment and now he has improved a bit. He wants to study that’s why we are giving him chance to study. Making him sit in home will neither benefit him nor will we be benefited. We think that if he studies then he will get some help from that. For exams he says no to studies. He has the fear of examination and does not feel like appearing in exams. He says that he may fail so he won’t appear in exams. I feel so sorry for him but proud of my child.
Vineet- Thank you Aunty. I think your views will support Kunal to sustain in the future...
Our observation:
After viewing this video we could see how the effects of learning disabilities when not diagnosed at the early or foundation stage of a child’s career makes it so difficult at a later stage where parents are compelled to go for clinical treatment of a symptom if spotted at the right moment.

Aakash: A Special Child!!
We observed the behavior of Aakash, a new student of our school who just started his school life. He is pretty much different than the other newcomers....Most of the time he is seen enjoying his own life with his own thoughts. He is not afraid of teachers and is always walking and running around cheerfully. The teachers love him the way he is and is always helping him with his studies but they say that he is not much into studies. And that during music class he plays the drum heart-fully.
Other Then Study
The above video shows the interest and enthusiasm of the students for participating in the Annual Day Function. The video will definitely make you to think about the students who are good at studies but excellent in other activities like dance (Bhangra).
The good thing for me is that I have been selected to perform as an anchor on the forthcoming Annual Day Function and I will definitely do my best in this field as I am very much interested to do it.
The good thing for me is that I have been selected to perform as an anchor on the forthcoming Annual Day Function and I will definitely do my best in this field as I am very much interested to do it.
Overcoming the challenges
It was once rightly said by Bernice Johnson Reagon "Life's challenges are not supposed to paralyze you, they're supposed to help you discover who you are."
It was really very difficult to take survey of the students on a schooling day, teachers will be taking classes and you will have to go in, request them, take their time and there is a possibility that they may feel bad about you. Another problem came as the preparation for the annual function of school was going on so it was more difficult. Vineet was chosen as the anchor of annual function so he could not spend much time with me, for an hour he was with me helping me in the survey. Students were participating in large numbers in the annual programs as this time more potion of the result was given to non scholastic area. It again became tough to collect students and give them the survey questions. Leave those whore were participating in the annual function other than that there were many who were just roaming in the name of annual function, so hardly one could find 2 or 4 students in the class. Students in the lower classes were notable to understand some questions so making them understand was also our responsibility. At last challenges are there to be broken.
Survey
Survey questions
I along with Vineet conducted a survey and students from class VII to X and of XII were given an average of five questions to each section of each class. The question paper was given randomly. Many students were keened to take part in the survey. This survey was conducted to know the views of different students. To make it sure that the survey was taken every student was asked to write his/her fathers name and contact number.
The question paper is as follows:
1. Are you happy with CCE and the reason?
a. Yes, because it help us show our external talent.
b. No, because it has increased burden of work on us.
c. Not yet, since I am trying to adjust according to it.
d. Don't know, since CCE is very complicated to understand.
2. Do you like the way your teachers teach you.
a. Yes
b. No
c. Its OK
d. Can't say
3.How much burden you feel when the teacher is teaching in the class.
a. 0%
b. About 30 to 50%
c. About 60 to 80%
d. 100%
4. What do you like more than studies?
a. Doing sports activity
b. Singing and Dancing
c. Drawing and painting
d. Other
5.Do you think that if you were taken out of studies and given your favorite field than would u have done better than studies.
a. Yes, definitely
b. May not but I would have been happy with that.
c. No, I might have failed to do so.
d. It is quite difficult to make the decision.
Survey report
Preparation of survey report.
Q | a | b | c | d |
1 | 46% | 40% | 12% | 2% |
2 | 58% | 12% | 24% | 6% |
3 | 14% | 56% | 20% | 6% |
4 | 36% | 10% | 20% | 34% |
5 | 42% | 32% | 6% | 20% |
From the above data interpretation one can easily understand that about 50% of the students are happy with CCE as it gives the students to their external talents, but 40% of the students are not happy with CCE as it increases the burden of work, some students also persist who are trying to adjust themselves to the conditions of CCE and students who are not able to understand CCE is negligible.
When the matter of satisfaction of teachings by teachers come around 60% of the students are very happy with the way teachers each them, 10% of the students are not at all happy with their teachers, some students also say that it is alright, few students are not able to evaluate their teachers as the opted for “can’t say”
Most of the students feel 30 to 50% burden on when the teacher is teaching in the class, some feel more than that and students are also there who do not feel any stress but in opposite to that few students totally do not want to attend the class as they feel too much boring in the class.
Students liking games and sports exist more than that of singing, dancing, and drawing. Some are also interested in other activities like quiz, anchoring, scouting, etc. It shows their interest in other activities apart from the studies.
When students were asked that if they were taken out of studies and given their favorite field then would they be able to perform well in that field, most of them had confidence in their favorite area, some answered that if they could not then also they would be happy with that, some students were not able to decide as they thought it is very difficult to make this decision but few students opted for no.
No one to hear...!
Learning disability creates an immense pressure and introverted feeling among the students. Ashish one of the student of my school who is very much good in dance but not as good in studies is been neglected by teachers and other classmates makes him feel awkward but nobody is there for him to hear him. He is so shy the he feels shamed of coming in front of the camera and as he is unable to speak English so I had to take oral interviews of Ashish and the convert it into English so as to present it in front of you. The interview follows:
Abdul(myself): What do you like the most dance or studies?
Ashish: I like dance more than studies as I am good in that.
Abdul: So why don't you join a dance school?
Ashish: My father want that I should continue my studies and in spite of my many request he rejected my passion and is not willful to add me in a dance school.
Abdul: What you want to become when u grow up?
Ashish: I wanted to become a dancer but I can’t do as my wish.
Abdul: So will you let your wish and cherish die.
Ashish: I will have to as I must hear my father and can't oppose him.
Abdul: Thank you Ashish for your cooperation.
Ashish: Welcome
Now you see how helpless he is to share his feelings. This is just one case there must be many cases like this which must be solved and can be solved by creating awareness. So I think this project will create some awareness to those who are unaware.
